Russian leather is recognized by its diamond-shaped grain, its characteristic reddish-brown hue and the delicately smoky scent of the birch tar oil that nourishes it. This rare leather is vegetable-tanned with oak, willow and birch bark, an age-old technique still practiced at the English tannery J. & F. J. Baker.
The bookmark is cut, assembled and finished by hand in France at the Meleniewska workshop. It is lined grain to grain, and its creased edges are coated with a clear varnish.
